About Geothermal

The Tauhara Geothermal Charitable Trust was formed as a result of the Tauhara II project, a 250MW geothermal power station on the outskirts of Taupō.

The Tauhara II project will be a part of our landscape for many years to come. Part of the role of the Tauhara Geothermal Charitable Trust is to encourage Ngā Hāpu to learn about Tauhara 2 and to engage in the geothermal industry. We hope that in the years to come, Tauhara II and other geothermal projects in our rohe provide strong employment opportunities for our people.

We also seek to acknowledge the taonga that is the geothermal resource. This resource has sustained our people for generations, and continues to sustain us today.
