Tauhara II

In December 2010 Contact Energy Limited obtained resource consents for a new 250 MW geothermal power station on the Tauhara geothermal steamfield, north east of Taupō, and near the new Te Huka Geothermal Binary Station.

The Tauhara II power station would bring around $1 billion of investment into the Taupō region and the country’s energy supply, and produce enough electricity to meet the needs of around 270,000 average homes.

Since gaining resource consents Contact has been developing the project in readiness for construction when market conditions allow.
